 Opinion I'm still learning the many facilities available with PRTG Network monitor, but from what I have already discovered, it more than meets my requirements and is an excellent piece of software - more then 'Fit for Purpose'. It does what it says on the box.
PRTG seems very potent. my primary use, to monitor my internet connection uptime, has been reached.

 Cluttered and misbehaved This program has a lot of hints and advertising to make you purchase the not-free version, or other software from the same vendor. The interface is cluttered and not very polished at all. I didn't bother trying to actually use it.

follow up on response Hi! My anti-virus works very fine but it is windows xp that did not recognize that it work...I think maybe your software modify one service in my PC or something like that and because of that, windows XP did not see that my anti-virus is installed and working correctly. I'm sure that your software is responsible for that because it was the only change that I do on my PC since many month.Thanks to take some time to help me, it was very appreciated.
troubleshooting after installation After I install your software, Windows XP did not recognize anymore my anti-virus software. I receive every time I logged a Windows security Alert. I desinstall your software and it did not correct the problem. I try maining things to correct the problem but nothing work. For this reason, I did not recommend your software and I will not buy it!  A really nice piece of software. I have been having problems with the local network going down. This software is brilliant simple to install and easy to use. I would recoment it to anyone who has issues with website and network down times, because often it is having the evidance that mnakes people do things.
Could almost be great Adding down to the second monitoring would be great. Also I work at a server colocation. It would be great if there was a web interface so customers could login view alarms and disable them over the internet. These are the main features holding us back from purchasing the product.

I was not able to use the tool to monitor shares on a remote system.I was not sure from the description if it could or could not so downloaded and installed and tested it to confirm.I uninstalled and deleted the downloaded file.I have subsequently found a script method which will do what I wanted.
